Appendix

This life-sized appendix forms a small part of a larger project I have been working on to crochet all the organs of the digestive system.

Difficulty:

Easy

You will need:
  • Anchor creativa fino cotton in light orange
  • A 2mm crochet hook
  • Black embroidery thread
  • An embroidery needle
  • A pair of scissors
The appendix is a small organ just found off the start of your large intestine that is often thought to not have much function, other than becoming infected and needing to be removed. However, scientists now think that it plays a role in your immune system, helping to replace the good bacteria in your gut when they're lost. You can find out more about how it does that by watching this SciShow video.

For the appendix:
make a magic loop with 6sc
Rounds 1 - 7: (7 rounds) Sc in each st
Rounds 8 - 9: (2 rounds) Slip2, sc, hdc2, sc
Rounds 10 - 23: (14 rounds) Sc in each st
Fasten off

Fun fact:
The first depiction of an appendix is thought to have been drawn in 1492 by Leonardo Da Vinci.

For the face:
Embroider the face onto the front of the appendix using embroidery thread.

That's all from this pattern - I hope you have enjoyed it! If you did I have lots of other similar patterns available on this blog and many more ready to publish in the near future - you can see what I have designed so far and am currently working on by following my InstagramThat's also a good place to contact me if you have any questions about this or any of my other patterns.
